Touch & Geaux - Abigail Roux

IL LIBRO IN PILLOLE: Man, that hurt.

Insomma.. Curiosity killed the cat!

No, niente.

"Inside was a rectangular silver token. A rough anchor had been etched into the face of it. Zane picked it up and dropped the box to the floor. He could feel something on the other side, but his eyes were fixed to the anchor. “I had my ring from the cruise ship job melted down for it. It’s a sobriety token.” Zane looked up. Ty was sitting on the edge of the bed, shoulders slumped, eyes on the floor. “You told me one time that . . . I was your compass. I gave you direction when you were lost,” Ty said, nearly choking on the words. He glanced up, eyes reflecting like liquid in the low light. “Well, you were my anchor. You were something solid for me to hold onto. I wanted you to remember that.”

Cattiva Abigail!!

So che posso sembrare ripetitiva..

“I would have chosen you over anything,” Zane hissed. He pulled back, breaking Ty’s hold, bunched the front of Ty’s shirt in both hands, and jerked Ty forward until they were nose-to-nose, until Ty’s feet weren’t solidly on the floor. “My job, my family, my wife. I would have given my life for you! But you! You can’t even give me the truth!”

“We have to get him back here,” Nick said. “Use him as our sixth.” “Is he up for that?” Digger asked. Ty straightened and shot Digger a look. “I trust my life to him every day. He’s up for anything we throw at him.”

“Okay, we’re on our way.” Nick ended the call and waved at Zane. “Kelly says Ty’s losing it, they need us back there.” It was almost eight blocks from the station to Tulane Medical Center, but Zane didn’t even hesitate. He took off at a run, and Nick sprinted after him.

Two weeks after his wife’s funeral, Zane had begged for a new assignment, part of him hoping a change of scenery would make him want to kill himself less, and the other part hoping for an assignment so dangerous he wouldn’t have to do it himself.

Better to ask forgiveness than permission. That had become their motto.

“I just need to be able to trust you, Ty,” he whispered. “You can. I swear you can. I’d die for you, Zane.” Zane’s heart was in his throat as he studied Ty’s profile. “I know.”
